Internship
The Saara and Björn Wahlroos Foundation in close co-operation with Reuters
and the Reuters Foundation, has established internships to be awarded annually
to two ambitious and dedicated young journalist set on a career in financial
or international journalism. Participating in the Reuters Academy courses in
International Journalism (ten weeks) and Financial Reporting (four weeks)
respectively, they are to receive a thorough introduction to world-class
journalism and the editorial practices and policies of a world class newspaper
while actively contributing to research and editorial work.
Applicants are required to submit their resumes to the foundation
secretary prior to March 3, 2006, and should have
- at least two years of prior work experience in journalism;
- a keen professional interest in financial and political problems;
- good written and spoken command of the English language;
- be under 40 years of age.
Applications will be reviewed both by the Board of Trustees of the foundation and the editors of the Reuters Academy prior to awarding the internship.

Previous Internships at Financial Times
2005
The Board awarded the 2005 Financial Times Internship to Maria Silander of
Turun Sanomat. Ms. Silander, (born 1975), is a financial editor at Turun Sanomat, the
third largest daily newspaper in Finland. She holds university degrees in both
international business and journalism and has done both print and video work
for the TS-Group since 2002. Prior to her present position she has written for
both Kauppalehti and Helsingin Sanomat.
2004
The Board of the Saara and Björn Wahlroos Foundation awarded the 2004
Financial Times Internship to Katja Boxberg. Ms. Boxberg, (born 1967), is Reporter and
Baltic Correspondent at Kauppalehti, the leading business daily in
Finland. She spent six months at Financial Times. Prior to her present
position she worked as a Correspondent in Brussels, Moscow and Stockholm for
Kauppalehti and as a Staff Reporter at Startel. She has previously published a
biography of former Finnish Prime Minister Paavo Lipponen.
2003
The Board of the Saara and Björn Wahlroos Foundation awarded the 2003
Financial Times Internship to Annukka Oksanen. Ms. Oksanen, (born 1965), was
Assistant Editor of the Business and Economics section of the leading
daily newspaper in Finland, Helsingin Sanomat. She spent six
months working on three separate editorial departments of the FT. Prior
to taking on the job of Assistant Editor she worked as editor and
European affairs correspondent for Helsingin Sanomat in Brussels.
